Amina J. Mohammed, the UN’s Deputy Secretary-General and Chair of the Sustainable Development Group, paid a visit to Mongla on 2nd July, 2023 to witness the “Local Government Initiative on Climate Change” (LoGIC) project, a collaboration between the UN and the local administration aimed at enhancing resilience and implementing local climate change adaptation measures.
During her visit, Deputy Secretary-General Mohammed had first-hand experience with the climate change adaptation initiatives led by the communities. She met the local community who have benefitted from technical and financial support from the LoGIC project.
Amina Mohammed expressed her gratitude for the impactful work being done on climate change adaptation, emphasizing the value of local leadership, innovations, and nature-based solutions in constructing climate resilience.
Along with other top representatives from the government and UN, the event was attended by the Deputy Minister of Environment, Forests, and Climate Change Habibun Nahar, UN Resident Coordinator in Bangladesh Gwyn Lewis, Resident Representative, UNDP Bangladesh Stefan Liller, and Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Bangladesh to the UN Muhammad Abdul Muhith.
